As I’ve been flying and driving all around the Midwest over the past several weeks I have been thinking about how insane the summer can be. For those of us that live in Chicago or anywhere else in upper Middle-America we basically spend eight months out of the year stuck inside due to the ridiculously long winters we live through. So what do we do over the course of those winters? We sit in our homes and we plan things for those amazing four months of the year when the sun actually reaches us: the beautiful time of the year called summer. The only problem with this is that by the time the spring gets here we tend to have every day from June through August booked.
For me, the latest summer excursion came last weekend when I went back home to Ohio. I was a groomsman for one of my best friends (see the picture above). We had an amazing time and the wedding was great. But it was also exhausting. On the flight back home I thought to myself “I can’t believe it’s already mid-June. Where did the time go?” A couple days later, as I tried to settle back into work, I had the same thought and then I thought of all of you that are getting ready to start here at Benedictine next fall and all of the craziness you must be going through this summer.
Between proms, graduations, vacations, summer jobs, sports, and maybe even summer classes I know it can get overwhelming. So here is my advice: take one day in the next couple weeks to do nothing but relax. Get some of your friends together and do something as simple as spending the day by Lake Michigan. It’ll give you a good chance to sort of take a breath, look back at everything that is ending, enjoy what you are doing right now, and start to get prepared for what is about to start. And for those of you that haven’t decided where you are going next fall, or have made your decision but haven’t registered for your classes yet my advice is to just do it (sorry NIKE). Not only will this take one more thing off of your to-do list but it will relieve some stress and hopefully make able to enjoy the summer even more. If you’re not sure how to go about this just shoot me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org and I’ll help you out.
Summer in general can be crazy but the time in life that you all are going through is even crazier. So please try to enjoy it because it only happens once and besides, as we all know, summer will be over before we know it!
P.S. I was told after my last blog that I talked a lot about my dog and I should put a pic in here of him.
So here he is….pretty goofy huh?
